Primary Colours® (using NEO-PI)

This one or two-day course will equip you with the knowledge and skills to enable you to use the Primary Colours® Leadership Assessment Toolkit at all leadership levels (including full use of the NEO Personality Inventory).

About the course

The Primary Colours® Model of Leadership has been used successfully with senior managers and executives from over 1,000 organisations world-wide and has been adopted by global organisations as their own internal model, enabling leaders at all levels to understand the specific leadership tasks required to help their teams succeed. As the popularity of the Primary Colours® Model of Leadership continues to grow, we want to ensure it is fully accessible for all assessment and development-based professionals to use. To facilitate this, we provide specific training and accreditation courses for independent consultants, consultancy organisations, and HR and L&D professionals.

Completion of this course will lead to the award of accredited user status of the Primary Colours® Leadership Assessment Toolkit using the NEO-PI. You will also be given access to our online member’s portal, which features presentation slides and marketing materials for the purposes of developing your own client assignments, a resource library, member forums, and support from Primary Colours® psychologists.

Depending on your level of qualification and experience, you may attend one or both days of this training.

This course can be run in-house for organisations wanting to train a group of individuals and can be tailored to the participants’ level of qualification.


The training is a two-day programme if you are not already NEO trained. If you are already NEO-PI accredited, you will only have to attend Day 2.

Day 1:

NEO Personality Inventory workshop

This day is required prior to Day 2 if you are not already NEO trained.

An intensive and interactive one-day workshop designed for those who are not yet accredited in the use of NEO. Practitioners who complete this training will be able to use the NEO Personality Inventory, internationally recognised as the gold standard in personality measurement. This first day also enables users of the NEO Primary Colours® Leaders Report to fully understand the NEO dimensions referred to within the report.

Delegates learn through tutorials, group exercises, case studies and practical feedback sessions, how to use the NEO Personality Inventory with confidence.

Objectives of the course:

  • Gain knowledge of NEO’s 30 facets and five domains.
  • Interpret facet combinations.
  • Become familiar with NEO profiles.
  • Understand how to feedback NEO profiles.

Day 2:

Primary Colours® Leadership Assessment (using NEO-PI)

Day 2 will focus on the application of the NEO Personality Inventory within leadership development using the Primary Colours® Leadership Assessment Toolkit, designed to support individual and team leadership development and coaching activities. It equips you to become fully self-sufficient at conducting your own leadership assessments. If already NEO trained, you can go straight to completing this as a one-day course.

The toolkit includes:

  • Personality assessment – the NEO Primary Colours® Leadership Report
  • 360° feedback – the Primary Colours® Leadership 360°
  • Integrated results from personality and 360 assessments – the Leadership Strengths Matrix
  • Additional materials – participant reflection guides, coach’s report, team reports and a facilitator’s guidebook

Based on the Primary Colours® Model of Leadership (the proven leadership model we use in our teaching at Oxford University’s Saïd Business School), this tool represents the state of the art in leadership/management assessment and development. The assessments equip you to objectively identify leadership potential, strengths and development areas and inform key talent management decisions.

Day 1 of this training is designed only for those not already accredited in the use of the NEO-PI. If you are already NEO-PI accredited, you will only have to attend Day 2.

  • You will need to be trained in personality/psychometric theory (such as the BPS qualification in test use (Level B/ TUOP)/ an international BPS equivalent/ through another psychometric tool accreditation).
  • You will also need to be an experienced practitioner (in leadership assessment and development/coaching/L&D/HR/talent management).
